For those of you like walking or hiking, trekking could be a good sport for you to try. Trekking is another form of hiking that can be done in mountainous or rugged areas. Hiking, trekking or walking does not require any particular skill but it does require planning and the right equipment. It is also a good idea, if you are new to the sport, to start with a beginners trail and slowly work your way up to longer and more advanced trails. There should be signs along the trail showing distance and level of difficulty. The easier trails for the less advanced are usually shorter trails and do not have too many steep or rocky slopes.

My god child has been the number one fan of my cakes since she was a little girl. I have made her birthday cake every year since she was born. I also made her first communion cake, confirmation cake and graduation cake. When she was planning her wedding she asked if I would make her wedding cake. I had never made one before. I had requests through the years, but always declined. I do not have the right pans to bake a wedding cake, and I do not have the frosting skills needed for such an important event.

My mom often tells this story of when I was young. Apparently, my parents were entertaining guests and I was momentarily left to myself. They were serving some food or something, and I felt left out and hungry. Now, you might think that a normal child would do something like tug on his mother’s leg, start crying, or even ask for food, but I was much more direct than that. I was a child who knew what he wanted, you might say. What I did was this: I took my baby high chair in hand, carried it all the way into the kitchen, and put it down.

For the first few months of my pregnancy, I was constantly beset by anxiety. Even though intellectually I knew that my baby was just beginning to develop, I was still sort of worried by the absence of any noticeable activity. You know how it goes. In movies, babies are always kicking at their mothers bellies, or shifting around. As I said, I knew that it is a long time before the baby starts to exhibit any of these behaviors in reality, but that didn’t stop me from worrying that something was going wrong.

When my daughter was born, she was amazingly colicky. I was absolutely miserable for the first three months of her life. She refused to nurse and took to feeding out of baby bottles from one week old. I was disappointed about that for a while, but I had to just go with the flow. Since the moment we brought her home, she’s never slept for an entire night. Her colic kept her from sleeping soundly for more than 2 hours at a time. As she grew, that didn’t change too much. On her first birthday, her pediatrician told me that she needs to be weaned off of the baby bottles. Of course, she wasn’t getting baby bottles all the time, just at night. It seemed to be the only way she’d sleep. If she didn’t have a bottle when she laid down, forget it – she wasn’t interested in falling asleep.

There are more and more parents today that are choosing to teach their children at home. It’s not a decision that one should take lightly, because not all people are cut out to teach. I know that I am one of those people. I am glad that my daughter seems to be outgoing and intelligent, and I hope that means she won’t have too many problems in school. I don’t want to be my mother.
