Growing up, one of my favorite Disney stories was Peter Pan. In fact, I remember playing the character role of Peter’s younger brother, John, at a play held at one of the summer camps my siblings and I attended.

Similarly, my niece can’t get enough of Tinker Bell even though she was first introduced to the Peter Pan movie 3 years ago. She’s got a tinkerbell knapsack, clothes, shoes, toy, and the DVD. The only thing missing seems to be a Tinkerbell Costume. Peter Pan Costumes have been around for a long time and are likely here to stay!

There is a new movie coming out September 24, 2010 that is expected to be as adventurous as The Lord of the Rings….Legend of the Guardians. The movie is based on the series of young adult books written by Kathryn Lasky. The film is a completely CGI movie and is directed by Zack Snyder. I am certain that my kids are going to love this adventure/fantasy tale, as I am sure yours will as well.

There are also amazing Legend of the Guardians Costumes available for this Halloween. The hype around the movie hasn’t reached full force yet but you can bet that once it does your children will be wanting to dress up as their favorite character in the movie, Soren. Children can’t seem to get enough of Disney movies, theme parks, and costumes.

One of the first Disney characters my niece couldn’t stop talking about was Princess Ariel from the Little Mermaid movie. Not only would she constantly be singing “Under the Sea”, but she would play with her Ariel doll & Ariel mermaid wand and act out scenes as if she were in the movie.

When William Holmes McGuffey’s READERS debuted in 1836, one-room schoolhouses contained all eight grades, and students progressed at their individual rates. Yet it is also widely held that some of their stories are out of step with the times, such as those which suggest that Indians are savages, or that a little boy was “gay” (i.e. joyful), or that God doesn’t love little boys who are naughty. The Moore Editions. These McGuffey Readers omit such stories from the original (1836) versions and substitute more acceptable accounts from the 1838, 1843, and 1853 editions. But the Moore editors went beyond these changes to offer better word lists, questions which require more thought, and — particularly in Reader IV — bright, updated introductory remarks to great pieces of literature. Have you ever heard the phrase ‘children are better seen than heard’ before? The fact is, when it comes to children, many societies saw them more for their labor value than what they could contribute to better their society by means of an education.
