Personalized Children’s Books

Personalized children’s books are usually based upon animal themes or fairy stories that all children seem to love. They often introduce an educational element too. However, the fact that the boy or girl is actually in the story brings them to life in a totally new, different and fascinating way. You can see the child’s excitement build as they realize they have actually been woven into the story. They see their own names, their friends and their home town actually playing a key role as events unfold.

Positive Parenting

Positive parenting brings many benefits that you can enjoy for a lifetime. Whether it’s a good paycheck on payday, a great day at the park, a good evening of family watching a movie, family time putting up decorations for the holidays or nearly any other event in daily life; we always look for positives. These are the things that make life enjoyable. This doesn’t need to end at this level. Positive parenting can make many more of these events while raising our children, and many positive adult years for our children and family later on.

Step Parenting

Parenting your own children is challenging enough but when you are parenting someone else’s children, the demands are intensified. When a new marriage thrusts you into the role of step parent, you may find the journey to be fraught with obstacles; but with a little sensitivity and a lot of communication you can find the role of step parenting an enormously rewarding one. Step parenting can mean that you are faced with marriage and parenthood in one fell swoop. Adjusting to married life can be challenging enough but when you compound the issues with children who are often bitter and confused, you’re not always off to a great start. And if you don’t have children of your own, you are now having your first experience with parenting.

Cloth Diapers

Cloth diapers have the best advantage by being reusable. They may be better known as reusable diapers, but that name is far less appealing than cloth diapers. Cloth diapers give your baby a sense of softness and tenderness to the their skin. Due to their reusability, cloth diapers last longer, cost less, and are not harmful to the environment. One advantage is that cloth diapers do not contain harmful chemicals that some disposable diapers have. Disposable diapers have been known to contain Dioxin. This substance is also used for bleaching paper. Do you want that touching your baby’s skin? This material has been banned in most countries.

Planning a Child’s Birthday Party

Planning a child’s birthday party is no easy task. There are some well-meaning parents who choose to set up and organize their kids’ parties themselves, because not only is it cheaper than having to hire a professional birthday party planner, it also allows them to feel more bonded with their child. Do it yourself planning, however, requires a significant amount of time, effort and energy. Hence, given the extremely busy schedules of today’s parents, it seems very practical to have someone else, an expert on the matter, do the nitty gritty. After all, the working parent surely can’t commit to being on the phone talking to caterers and party supplies shops all day.

My Daughter’s Quinceanera

When my daughter turned 15, we threw her a Quinceanera party to celebrate her womanhood. At first, she didn’t want to have one at all. Her friends were teasing her that it was her “coming out” party. But after a while, and especially after getting a Quinceanera dress, she completely changed her mind. Quinceanera dresses are like prom dresses, but they have great cultural significance. Perhaps they are more like simplified wedding dresses. Anyway, what 15 year old girl wouldn’t want to dress like a princess and be pampered for a day? All of my daughter’s friends went home telling their parents that they wanted a Quinceanera too. I even sent them home with copies of the article, “Planning a Flawless Quinceanera.” The article taught me a few of the Quinceanera basics, and I figured it would do the same for the other mothers.

Alcohol Abuse and Troubled Teens

The main reason why troubled teens turn to alcohol is to lower inhibitions, especially for these teens. It allows teenagers to engage in deviant behavior without feeling guilt or fear that they will get caught. Drinking alcohol gives teens the perception that they are “cool” and can fit into peer groups easily. Alcohol abuse and troubled teens can also be found in situations where the teenager lives in a turbulent home life. Parents who use drug or alcohol themselves create a difficult world for their teenager. To help forget the pain of having unsupportive parents, the teenager drinks alcohol to self-medicate.

Parenting Troubled Teens

Each age group offers its own set of challenges. But none is more talked about or struggled with than the teenaged years. Raising a typical teenager can be stressful enough as you battle for control with a young adult eager to assert his/her independence. But parenting troubled teens offers its own unique experience. Parenting troubled teens can exacerbate an already stressful time and put an enormous strain on a family unit.

Teenagers and Parenting Advice

It is sometimes said that teenagers
live at a world of their own, but this irrational belief can lead to very poor parenting advice. The truth is that teenagers live in the same world as adults, small children and all of us. They have the same fears, hopes, insecurities and dreams as anyone else. The only difference being, that teenagers are going through a transition stage toward becoming adults. This transition is not only cultural, but also physical — hormones are racing through the teenager’s body, affecting their preferences, decision-making processes, and of course, their physical appearance.

Parenting advice
is all around us every day, from experts to novices, from our parents to fellow parents that we meet at the sporting event. We are constantly bombarded by some form advice. Simply giving parenting advice is uncomplicated because everyone has had some kind of know-how in the topic. There are novel parenting tips, survival guides, and lists of what to do and not to do that are being provided to parents every day of the week.

Foster Parenting

Foster parenting
is one of the most humane institutions this country has ever started. While the laws vary from state to state, it still is possible for someone who may feel so blessed in their own lives that they are willing to share their homes and their love with children that otherwise may not have had the opportunity for a stable home. While the legal framework for adopting children can be quite convoluted, it still pays to be patient when waiting for a child to adopt, and a life to change.

Hobbies for kids in the real world

Although computers and technology are a wonderful development in the modern world, many parents wonder if the virtual world endangers their children’s natural social development. This is a legitimate worry. Some kids spend all of their spare time finding entertainment on the web, playing video games and chatting with online friends. Kids must also engage in real world activities in order to develop well rounded social skills. Parents often have a difficult time convincing kids that this is true. Here are some ways you can pry the kids away from the computer without any objections on their part.

Whether kids will admit it or not, all kids like fun in the company of other kids their own age. The trick to encouraging hobbies for kids that they’ll beg you to let them do is to allow them to lead you to the activities they enjoy. For example, if your child has been invited by a friend to an ice skating party and your child wants to go, make every effort to accommodate the request. If you need to drive them, make the time to do so. This may become a weekly activity which provides healthy exercise, fun and a trip off the couch and into the real world. If your kid enjoyed swimming in grade school, but hasn’t participated in years, suggest joining a swim club at the teen center or Y.

Thoughts on activities for children

This time of year, more and more parents are asking about Christmas activities for children. Christmas can be a lot of different things to a lot of people. One of the Christmas kids activities that everyone can get into, however, is making crafts! Building gingerbread houses, making Christmas tree ornaments, Designing Christmas cards – all of these are great activities for children and parents alike!

So far, I have neglected the most important kind of activity for children: educational games. Education doesn’t need to be separated from the rest of life. Although it is true that kids have to spend a certain amount of times at their desks, taking notes in school, there is also plenty of room for other ways of learning. Children’s educational toys are a great way to let your kids explore and learn about electronics, nature, spatial reasoning, engineering, and a variety of other fascinating subjects. Basically, no matter what your child is interested in exploring, there are toys and activities for children that will help them with it.

Attachment Parenting

You may or may not be familiar with the term “attachment parenting“. You could instead say Instinctive Parenting, Continuum Parenting or Natural Parenting, but the same principles are involved no matter which name you choose. There are some basic principles that are common to this style of parenting. Attachment parenting uses mild discipline methods and avoids all physical or emotional punishment, such as inflicting shame on a child for inappropriate behavior.

Preparing for a Baby

The most exciting part of preparing for a baby is procuring up the large items. Setting up the nursery, turning on the mobile just to listen to the lullaby, washing sheets, and assembling the swing are givens. Parents are told countless times what to register for or buy in the way of crib bedding, furniture, and baby gear. There are checklists with these items, and when you reach the bottom of the list, you feel a sense of satisfaction. But, are you really ready?

Raising Children

Raising children is a confusing business. There are times when any parent or caregiver can use additional parenting advice. There are many books available to parents to help get through the day-to-day issues.
Every child is different, and every parent is different, too. Because of this, there are no cookie-cutter solutions that will work for everyone. The best suggestion is for you to review all the solutions you discover and take a few quiet minutes to think about them. Modify the suggestions to best suit your family, and don’t be afraid to try out more than one until you discover the best answer.

Get Children to Appreciate the Joys of Reading

No one ever became a worse reader by reading more. This is at least what my mom told me, and what I tell to my students. However, as any parent knows, it is often a struggle to get children to appreciate the joys of reading.
In todays fast paced information age, popular childrens book often become blockbuster movies. Free time is often spent playing videogames, surfing the internet and watching television. Trying to convince youngsters to pick up a book can become quite a daunting task, but there are some tips parents can use to increase the odds of their children enjoying the pastime of reading.

Protect Your Children Online

Just as it is your job to protect your children in every day life, it is your job as a parent to protect your children online. Parents who wouldn’t allow their children to go out with people they don’t know often think nothing of letting their children spend hours online chatting with strangers. Today, online crimes can easily enter your home, so it is your responsibility to make your child aware of the online dangers that exist. In addition to communicating with your child about online safety, pro-active parents can purchase software that may prevent potential problems.

Chore Lists For Kids

Make a list of all the chores required of your kids. Even making their bed and brushing teeth is a chore to a kid, so include those types of tasks. With personal hygiene and bed-making, write that child’s name beside that entry. Leave all the other items on the chore list blank.

Next, get everyone together. Be prepared for moans and groans. “I know I’m supposed to brush my teeth!” Explain to the child that if a task is necessary, but doesn’t always get done, it warrants an entry on the chore lists. When the task has been done every day for a month, you’ll remove it.

Now let the kids know that it’s up to them to sign up for an equal number of chores which they are willing to perform.
