Socially responsible veterinarian hospitals and clinics around the country are collecting pet food from their clients. They have partnered with a local food bank who then distributes the pet food to the homeless and disadvantaged. The national program gives the veterinarian’s clients and staffs a feeling that they are doing something worthwhile.

My dear friend just bought a new home and since she felt lonely she decided to get herself a brand new puppy. To surprise her all of us friends decided to buy her gift baskets as a house warming and dog warming present. She was absolutely over the moon with her home warming gifts as was her puppy with his dog gift baskets. We rang her up and told her we were coming to visit and that she needed to have coffee ready and paper plates out for the food we were bringing. We brought over wine, appetizers, supper, and of course some yummy desserts to share whilst she opened her gifts and the puppy wrestled with the wrapping on one of his baskets. She is so thrilled about her new home and the new stage in her life. Being very social she has already met lots of people in her area. She has already developed plans for a new garden she wants to work on next spring. So far being a new property owner has been a great joy for her.

When I was a child we kept rabbits as pets. We also had a tortoise, but I can’t say I found it particularly intriguing or exciting apart from when it tried to swim and sank to the bottom of our small fish pond. The rabbits were good fun and if anyone is considering getting a pet for their children then a rabbit is well worth considering. There is a trend to have them as house pets. This is partly because they can usually be trained to use a litter tray. They are sociable animals, so unless you can spend lots of time with them it is recommended that you buy rabbits in pairs. Males can fight, but neutered females can live together. The best pairing is said to be a neutered male and neutered female. Rabbits come in all different shapes and sizes. There are also a number of different breeds to choose from. In terms of diet you can buy dry food from any local pet shop. In addition to this they need plenty of fresh fruit, vegetables and hay to help them digest the drier food. A ready supply of water is also advisable. Outdoor rabbits live in hutches. Indoors you can choose between a hutch or a cage. All rabbits enjoy getting out and about so it is well worth considering a grazing arc or run. Getting them out of the hutch onto grass also helps their diet while giving them the chance to exercise. If you do go with a run or grazing arc you will need to ensure they have sufficient shelter from rain, wind and hot sun. Foxes can be a big problem to rabbits so you need to ensure that any hutch or run is secure and cannot be broken into by foxes.

Your pet has disappeared and the whole family has gone out searching the neighbourhood. A few hours later, after much stress, you eventually find your pet.

If you wish to stop your pet from leaving your property, an underground pet fence may be your solution. It is not a hideous high fence, to stop your pet from jumping over the fence. It is all underground.

You can create a boundary in your yard for your pet and place underground wires on the boundary and a collar on your pet. Your pet will hear beeps when it gets close to the boundary. If it steps on the boundary it will either get a mild static electric shock or a spray of Citronella, depending on your settings.

Both of these methods are considered humane and will not harm your pet. To confirm if an underground pet fence is your best solution, contact your vet.
