As a mother or 4 young kids I was dismayed to hear a neighbour telling me that the area in which we live will mean we have limitations on Which Californian High School our kids will be able to attend. She went on to explain that this is what’s commonly known as the catchment area. The school we had set our hearts on is actually nearer to us than some of the other schools we would be allowed to apply for, yet for some reason it is not in our catchment area. And to think we uprooted and moved the entire family on ignorance. It’s enough to make a parent break down and cry. This news has also placed a strain on the relationship with my husband whom I nagged into moving for the sake of the children’s education. He left everything up to me and now he’s livid with what has happened. However, I hope to put a case forward to the school of our choice based on the grounds of innocence and misguided information with a little ignorance thrown in for good measure. All I know right now is that my mental health and wellbeing is in tatters as a result of this massive error! Perhaps if I’d have learnt how to use a computer, I could have done more up to date and comprehensive research online, but then hindsight is a wonderful thing right!
