When my daughter turned 15, we threw her a Quinceanera party to celebrate her womanhood. At first, she didn’t want to have one at all. Her friends were teasing her that it was her “coming out” party. But after a while, and especially after getting a Quinceanera dress, she completely changed her mind. Quinceanera dresses are like prom dresses, but they have great cultural significance. Perhaps they are more like simplified wedding dresses. Anyway, what 15 year old girl wouldn’t want to dress like a princess and be pampered for a day? All of my daughter’s friends went home telling their parents that they wanted a Quinceanera too. I even sent them home with copies of the article, “Planning a Flawless Quinceanera.” The article taught me a few of the Quinceanera basics, and I figured it would do the same for the other mothers.

The main reason why troubled teens turn to alcohol is to lower inhibitions, especially for these teens. Everyone who went to high school is familiar with this social caste group. Did you belong or were you one of the so-called outcasts? There are so many interesting and talented kids in every high school who are excluded from the popularity contests which high school cliques embrace. Generally, these kids feel rejected, believing they just aren’t good enough to garner the attention of these paragons.

The high school clique phenomenon is age-related and a developmental phase. When kids are little, parents generally try to teach their kids to get along with others. However, when the child reaches high school age, some of these same parents encourage this exclusivity, wanting their child to be amongst the popular ones. Do they suppose it’s now better to belong to a high school clique, thus ensuring social standing amongst their peers? It makes you wonder, what happened to the getting-along teachings? Sometimes, parents are simply reliving their own high school experience of being on the outside.

I have told you before that she has started using a stretch mark prevention cream; well actually the reviews say this one is effective in prevention, reduction and removal of stretch marks. Raising teens in general can be difficult, but raising an adolescent with ADHD can be quite the task. This is because teens with ADHD are less emotionally mature than their peers. They try to make deals with you, beg and plead, and if all else fails, cry, so that you will let them put off what they don’t want to do now for later, and then the same thing happens when you tell them that later has come and that they have to do the awful, dreaded task now. When it comes to homework and studying, procrastination can really be a bad habit, and one that can be very detrimental to your child from an academic standpoint as well. You, as the parent, need to teach your child the importance of making the most of their time, and that if they go ahead and get their homework and studying done, sooner rather than later, that they will have more time for the things that they want to do, and you won’t be yelling at them
about doing their homework. You have to help your child learn to prioritize, and accept
the fact that just because they don’t want to do something doesn’t mean that they can put it off forever, or that if they put it off long enough, it will just disappear.
