Museum of Electricity
If you would like to take a trip back in time and discover the early origins of electricity then a trip to the Museum of Electricity may be in order. This little gem is tucked away just off the town centre in Christchurch, Dorset. The museum is in fact situated in the old Power Station that used to generate the electricity used by the town and the surrounding area.
The museum houses many early electrical appliances and gives today’s children the opportunity to see the type of electrical goods that were available to their grandparents as well as some that were available when their parents were growing up.
A key part of a trip to the museum is the demonstration room. This houses a number of smaller models of early electric engines. An entertaining talk is provided to explain how the models work. On top of this children get a chance to get “hands on†with some of the exhibits.
With many children’s activities and days out costing an awful lot of pocket money you will be pleased to know that the museum has some of the most reasonable charges around. There is also free car parking available.ÂÂ
